homework austrian schools

BG Tanzenberg
BG Tanzenberg welcomes you to a school year in Austria. Here are some information about the Austrian education system:

I Austria kids have to go one year to the Kindergarten compulsory. But you can take even three years. Usually school starts at the age of six. There the kids go to the "Volksschule" wich is quite the same thing as elementary school. Then they can go to a Gymnasium ( in Austria the word "Gymnasium" is not the same as in English, it means a type of school) like our school (BG is for "Bundesgymnasium") or to a "Hauptschule" (you can compare it with the junior high). A Gymnasium lasts from the fifth to the 12th or from the ninth to 12th grade. But you can leave it after the first 4 years. A Hauptschule lasts from the fifth to the 8th grade. After the the first four years of the Gymnasium or after the Hauptschule you can go to an economic school like the HTL. In a HTL you learn to work with machines or with computers. This schools last five years. In Austria you have to go to schools for nine years compulsory. So after the first 8 years you can make the ninth year and go learning a job after this. After the Gymnasium or the economic school you take the Matura. It´s like the SAT or the ACT. What is more is that you can go learning a job and make the Matura the same time. After the Matura you can go to a university.

Tanzenberg is not a school where you learn technical stuff. It´s more about languages especial old ones. Latin is compulsory away from the seventh grade. Away from the ninth you can even take Ancient Greek like I did. It´s awesome, it´s my favourite subject with distance. We have a great teacher and it´s very interesting. Then there are the usual subjects like Maths, English and German. My least favourite subject is Maths but i think many kids round the world think so.

There are also many extra-curricular activities wich are offered in Tanzenberg like soccer, snowboarding, floorball, chess, drama or Slovenian. I do snowboarding and floorball, it´s really great fun all the time and a good balance to the school.

I looked up for High Schools in the US in the WWW and found the Pine View School in Sarasota. Subjects they offer we do not have are for exempel Chinese or Astronomy.

E-homework book

In school we had to borrow a book from the library for our English classes. I got "The Face on the Milk Carton" by Caroline B. Cooney. Our first task is to look at the cover of the book and write, what we are thinking the book is about. I think my book is about a girl, who was kidnapped and now everybody is searching for her. It´s probably a crime story.

E-HOMEWORK film review

Donnie Darko
„Donnie Darko“ is the film debut of the American director Richard Kelly from the year 2001. It´s a mixture of a psycho-thriller, a science-fiction film and a mystery film. The film is very complicated and you probably have to watch it 2 or 3 times to understand the real meaning of it. It´s about a 16-year old teenager called Donald J. Darko, who is really smart and creative but mentally deficient and about a guy in a rabbit suit who appears to Donnie and it´s about time travelling and about a tangent universe.
One day a plane engine crashes into Donnie´s house and because of this a parallel universe arises and Frank warns Donnie of the end of the world.
Donnie is played by Jake Gyllenhall who is also famous for “Brokeback Mountain” and “The day after tomorrow”. He was awesome in this movie, his mimic and the way he laughs and moves is brilliant.
Donnie Darko is a really difficult film and you have to think a lot to understand. It is definitely worth watching.

MUSIC english homework

Music is very important for me and half a year ago I started listening to music more often and it would be hard for me to stop listening to it. I listen to music when I´m on the bus or in the car or when I´m doing sports, because it´s really more fun with music. I also really like listening to music after school on my notebook. Then I can “turn off” my head and just relax.

I really like punk music and there is a special kind of punk I simply love. It´s Irish folk-punk. There are two awesome bands called “Flogging Molly” and “Dropkick Murphy´s”. They play with traditional Irish instruments like the Tin-whistle or the bagpipes. I have one CD of each band and I listen to them as often as possible. I also like German punk bands like “Die Ärtzte” or “Die toten Hosen” but also songs from bands which are not so famous, like WIZO. I also listen to metal. I really like the band “System of a down” because of their lead singer Serj Tankian. He has an amazing voice and he´s a really cool guy but I also like the band, because of their great sound and because of their good lyrics. Rammstein is another metal band from Germany, which I really like. Some time ago they were my favourite band and I still like listening to them. Their lead singer Till Lindemann gives the band its typical sound. It is a kind of music you cannot compare with the sound of another metal band and their lyrics are so hard to understand but also so amazing. And with their song “Links 2,3,4” they finally showed their political attitude, and taught their critics who said they would be radical right wing otherwise and because of this I love this song.

This is the official music video of a great song by Dropkick Murphy´s.
